Laura Shirowitz Trichotillomania specialist
Laura Sirowitz, LCSW, provides individual counseling to adults, adolescents, and children who are challenged by hair pulling, compulsive skin picking, and related problems. She also works with parents and family members of sufferers. In addition to her expertise with body-focused disorders, she counsels individuals with anxiety disorders and relationship issues.
Laura has led support groups for adult hair pullers and skin pickers in New York City. She has led workshops for adults, children, and parents at the Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC) 2008 National Conference in Chicago, IL, and she is published in the Fall 2008 issue of InTouch, a publication of TLC.
Laura graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University with a BA in psychology in 1991, and she received her masters in social work from Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work in 2002. She is a graduate of the first TLC Professional Training Institute in 2003. She received an advanced practicum certificate from the Institute for Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy in New York City in 2004, and a certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City in 2005. Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Social Work and the Trichotillomania Learning Center.
